Roadmap COP21 - Energy Cities on the way to Paris 2015
By on 29 January 2015
In December 2015, a new global pact on climate change is due to be signed in Paris. This 21st UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP21) is an opportunity for our network to explain and discuss the contribution of cities and regions to climate and energy policies. Stay tuned for events and publications by the staff and our members!
Go to our COP21 page to discover our major actions leading to the Paris event.
Our debates, policy and media briefings, blog posts, articles and tweets shall not only help you raise your voice, but also decode the complexity of the ongoing negociation process from a local point of view.
Energy Cities’ political message
Pioneering cities of the energy transition have become genuine laboratories of a decentralised, inclusive and low-carbon energy future.
Our network calls for the COP21 negotiators to take this reality into account. It is crucial that the states commit themselves to a transition process that sets a framework for new energy governance based on the needs and potential of each territory. In 2015, Energy Cities will draw from the experience of its 1,000 members from all over Europe to illustrate the wide range of local energy possibilities and convince decision-makers to change the set-up.
Without waiting for the agreement to come into force (in 2020), it is vital to build on existing processes supporting local actions.
