What is the city’s most ambitious target in terms of sustainable energy?

Riga, together with local, national and European stakeholders, has built a shared ambitious vision taking into account the alignment with EU policies and targets. By 2020 Riga will most certainly achieve a 55-60% reduction in CO2 emissions against baseline year 1990. The new Riga Smart City Sustainable Energy Action Plan sets out a number of actions which are monitored and revised on a yearly basis.

What are the benefits of being part of the Energy Cities network?

Energy Cities is a community of creative cities supporting each other’s development and inspiring one another. It unites likeminded politicians prioritizing sustainability and the well-being of their citizens, and builds on resources of motivated administration and stakeholders’ representatives. The network is supported by highly-qualified staff.
Altogether Energy Cities is a powerful city network which not only influences European bodies and agenda in favour of the local level, but also has a global lasting impact.
