MEDNICE is an umbrella project on energy efficiency of public buildings in the Mediterranean area, covering 13 countries from Portugal to Cyprus.
As a so-called "horizontal project", MEDNICE will be the overarching intiative that bundles 10 (modular) projects funded in the framework of the same Interreg Mediterranean programme.
In the Mediterranean area cooling (and heating) as well as low building standards induce high consumption and expenses. And this, even though a wealth of natural resources and a conducive climate do provide excellent conditions for greening residential and public buildings.
Objectives of the project
MEDNICE establishes a MED community around the 10 projects, dealing with capacity-building and awareness-raising, designing and testing of smart building and financing solutions. With MEDNICE, the precious expertise in the projects will be used to set up training and peer learning mechanisms in order to increase the capacity of public building managers and planners to better design and implement efficiency measures and practices in buildings and neighbourhoods.
What is Energy Cities doing in MEDNICE ?
Our mission is to get the best out of the projects and to spread the results : together with partners, we will promote the projects’ broad range of training and financing tools for the Mediterranean area. Moreover, by creating the "EEB Hub", a loose alliance of committed stakeholders from the green building sector, we will sense the needs and gaps and advocate enabling policies towards the EU level.
