Cities as drivers for a post-carbon world
By on 30 novembre 2015
Cities are at the forefront of the energy and carbon revolution, creating new models for a transition to a sustainable post-carbon society. At an official side-event at COP21 in Paris, members of the 7FP Post‐Carbon Cities of Tomorrow project (POCACITO) consortium will discuss how cities are essential catalysts in this so needed global transformation.

Facilitate the transition of EU cities to a “post‐carbon” economic model
The objective of the POCACITO project (running since January 2014 and ending in December 2016) is to facilitate the transition of EU cities to a “post‐carbon” economic model and to develop an evidence‐based EU 2050 post-carbon city roadmap.
At the core of the project is a series of participatory stakeholder workshops in the 8 case
Zagreb. The purpose of these workshops is to bring together local stakeholders to construct a common post-carbon vision for 2050 and a roadmap, or action plan, to reach the vision.

The project has also led to the development of a typology of post-carbon cities, which will be one of the basis elements of the EU 2050 post-carbon city roadmap.
Exchange of know-how in the EU and worldwide
Additionally, the project has established an online “market place of ideas” that supports an international knowledge exchange between cities in the EU but also with emerging countries like China and Brazil. It offers city factsheets and best practices, as well as all the research reports delivered by the consortium throughout the project duration.
Two studytours and a serie of webinars are also concrete occasions for these exchanges to happen.
The first webinar on "Low carbon urban development in Asia" is going to take place this 3 December 2015, from 09:00 to 10:00 CET. For further information and registration, please visit : http://pocacito.eu/events/webinar-low-carbon-urban-developments-asia-experiences-and-outlook
Energy Cities is a partner of POCACITO for its dissemination activities, thus contributing to promote the actions of EU cities for the energy transition.
